Have you looked everywhere for the perfect dentist but didn’t look in your own neighborhood? This is how I feel after my recent visits for dental work by Dr Kakouras My house, my home since 2006, is located just a smidge over a mile from Dr Kakouras’s dental practice. Over the almost 19 years in my current home, I have ventured far in hopes of finding the perfect dentist in Charlotte. I even ventured into South Carolina to dentists who display plaques stating they are voted the best dentistry in Charlotte. Based on my being a recipient of their dental work, my opinion is they are subpar. And, how do they get away with displaying plaques saying they’re the best in Charlotte when they’re located in Tega Cay and Fort Mill SC. I call that being deceitful. Along with routine maintenance, I have had expensive veneer work and implants done by dentists voted the “Best” in Charlotte who actually “are” in Charlotte but failed to tell me they don’t accept insurance nor do they have dental plans. I’m 70 years young. In my senior years I have prioritized dental health. My thought is if I take care of my teeth I will be able to eat properly and thus keep my body healthy. Plus, a healthy smile speaks volumes. When I ran searches near me the same dentist, typically a very young new dentist, would pop up in my search in multiple locations. I went to a dentist like this earlier this year. It took her 4 months to get one crown almost right and she was constantly trying to send me to dental specialists for dental issues I didn’t have. She eventually left and another young dentist showed up from another location. He came in to fix my crown and made me feel like I was being too picky and hard to please. Oh my gosh, it’s my money and my teeth! I got fed up with what seemingly appeared to be the new trend of corporate profit in dentistry. I felt my dental needs were not the focus. I felt like I was chasing after them, doing as they asked, spending too much money, not getting the results I wanted and not using my brain. I decided I’m too smart to allow that cycle to continue; so, I stopped. I started looking closer to home in hopes of finding that one family-oriented dentistry who is real and cared about my dental needs. And especially one who was settled into his/her own practice, doing great work and receiving great reviews. This demeanor and goal I set for myself, led me to Dr Kakouras who is right here in my neighborhood. Yet, based on his telling me of his childhood memories of his family’s restaurant which was located close by his dental office, I’m convinced now it is his neighborhood I moved into. Dr Kakouras has treated me as an intelligent human who wants to maintain my 70 year old teeth for appearance and health. He has crowned 3 of my teeth in a short period of time while paying close attention to my low tolerance for pain, the discomfort I experience with metal in my back from spine surgery, my budget and my desire to present a great smile for the customers at my job. Visiting this dental office is like walking into a reception of friends. Barbara at the front office is a powerhouse of knowledge about what is happening and what needs to happen next. She is ultra organized and on top of insurance and dental plans. The other lady at check out is super friendly and pleasant. The chair side lady is an attentive angel watching over me making sure I’m comfortable in the chair while Dr. Kakouras works his magic. I’m actually looking forward to my next visit there.
